The "Dive in the Sky" project with the coordination of Turkey was held
with the participation of students and teachers from five countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Lithuania,
Portugal and Turkey) that have developed activities about astronomy to
increase students' interest in science and mathematics, to increase
their knowledge about the night sky and the universe, and to encourage
students to be scientists in the future.
The project also included cultural and linguistic activities to raise awareness to European countries and different cultures. The students used new technologies and produced works about light pollution (having received 8 awards in the Dark Skies Rangers contests), the Sun, planetary systems and deep sky, enhancing their ICT skills and their understanding of astronomy.
We also carried out astronomical observations, one astronomy dictionary, cartoons about an astronomer, lesson plans to teach astronomy and English, a mouse pad and posters for the meetings in each country.
The students presented the works in English, which has improved their communication skills and the astronomical vocabulary.

Information about school | Our school is a secondary private school and the owner of the school are catholic missionaries called (Herz Jesu Missionare = Sacre cour). They are working in Brasilia, Congo and New Guinea.You have to pay money for visiting our school. But if you are poor and the parents are singled it’s free. The parents of our students are often reach, but a lot of them are very poor and if we make projects the reach pay for the poor too. A part of the students are from Cosovo and Croatia and in the last years many students came from Germany. Every year 10 students can visite the school for free from Hungary and Techoslowakia. In my science class i have one student from Indonesia and one from USA too.
At first it is a school for languages like Latin, English, French, Spanish and Russian and social work. We make projects to get money for the children in the countries of the missionaries. Some students of our school visited with our director the children in Brasilia or Congo and give money and gifts (for example pencils and paper and books for learning).
Nearby i offer a course for Astronomy, not only for our students. Every student of Salzburg can choose this course. Now i teach 30 students in 2 lessons per week. The students are from 13 to 19 years old.
PG-Liefering is a High School and wants connection with pupils and teachers of other schools in whole Europe. The pupils who participate in this project are very interessted in Astronomy and want a common project where teamwork is very important.

Information about school | Primary School “Vasil Aprilov” conducts training with new methods that meet European standards of modern education with active participation of parents. Over 12 years the school implements integrated education of children with special educational needs. We have trained teachers, surdopedagog, tiflopedagog and resource teachers. Function two specialized offices for support children with special educational needs (SEN) – a resource room and a study room for children with visual and hearing difficulties, which is equipped with all the necessary technology to support teaching and self-learning of students.
At our school most of the students are poor. One or both parents are unemployed. Many children come from divorced families, so we have a lot of psychological problems. They are in danger of social exclusion. Looking for a job parents often go abroad for a long time, so they leave their children with others. Our students often feel lonely. There are many children with significant learning needs. We’re trying to help them, so we started different activities: eg intercultural cooperation, education and SOS friends, dyslectic school children.
Students and teachers from Primary School “Vasil Aprilov” will actively participate in all project activities “Immerse yourself in heaven”. Thе school will gladly collaborate with other primary schools in Europe. Participation in this project will enable us to increase our students’ interest in astronomy and mathematics. In the first year we will organize interesting and entertaining activities to encourage students to study celestial phenomena. The second year will make scientific observations and astronomical research laboratory exists in Ruse and by using computers. After each activity will be completed by teachers and students evaluation forms, and related scales.

Information about school | Our school is situated in a quiet area – Dainava district, which is mostly residential area of Kaunas City. It is near the city centre of Kaunas. The student number is growing every year thanks to the basic priorities of our school. Together with general secondary education, based on Christian ethic, our school provides musical education for children. We have pre-primary, primary school level, general secondary level and upper secondary level. Also, in our school we have musical- instrumental department. Being an active member of the whole European community is also an important educative aim of ours. Our school attend 1237 children. Among our pupils, we also have 107 pupils with specific needs ( distraction of behavior and attention, risk group, etc), 253 from social welfare families (social exclusion caused by economical difficulties) and we also have one pupil with physical disability, who attends lessons together with other school children and is not excluded from the school community. Despite the fact, that we are Catholic school, we also accept pupils and teachers practicising different religion beliefs.
Participation in this project, using the science of astronomy, will develop pupils’ knowledge, increase the interest in science and math subjects. Moreover, it will help to overcome learning difficulties, which they are facing during science and math lessons. The methods of the project will allow pupils to collaborate with students from different countries and compare the results of making observations, measurements using website and participating in the meeting visits. This project will integrate different subjects. During different activities, students will have chance to improve knowledge of foreign language, science, usage of IT. Being a partner of a Comenius group will surely enrich their knowledge and stimulate their curiosity about foreign students of the same age. Moreover, a deep comparison among the various cultural, educational, life-style realities of the partners’ countries is expected. So, participation in this project will enable our students and teachers to develop their social, inter-cultural and foreign language skills and share our experiences with other institutions and partnerships.
We will play an active role in the project collecting and preparing study materials for lessons, preparing a feedback questionnaire and analyzing its results, organizing a teacher’s meeting, writing reports.

Information about school | The school is situated in urban and rural areas, where the main economic activities are the Services, Trade and Industry (leather, paper, textiles, metalwork). In this area we feel the effects of unemployment, creating situations of economic difficulties, and sometimes social exclusion, as reflected in the high number of subsidized students, noting that for some students the only meals they eat are at school. These situations are becoming increasingly frequent, and the School have needed to create an Office of Student Aid and Family. There is also a group of students that is accompanied by psychological services for revealing behaviors that may provide social exclusion.
The community of immigrants from Eastern and China is significant and the parents and their children attend our school, and they reveal some difficulties in adapting the education system.
Our school aims to be inclusive, in this way also promotes the integration of students with special educational needs and disabilities, including deaf deep, which will be distributed in different classes, years and fields of study. The school is today a reference school for bilingual education to deaf students at the regional level. To combat school dropouts, the school fosters the creation of Education and Training Courses and Professional Courses of the New Opportunities for the adults.
In this project, through the astronomy activities, we will try to promote the active participation of the students, the interest for science/Astronomy and the knowledge of the European partner countries.

Information about school | Our school is a public school in which 6 years of age group students are educated in pre-school program and 7-14 years of age group students are educated in primary education program. There are 923 students in the school. Services in education and training are being executed by 3 directors, 41 teachers and 7 support personnel.Students participate in the activities of education and training every day for 6 lesson hours . In lesson hours besides general knowledge courses, students have also courses that improve their social, cultural and sportive aspects. Studies on students’ social, cultural and sportive skills (such as dance, music, chess, taekwondo, folklore and so on) are executed outside of school hours, too. Furthermore, outside of the lesson hours students participate community service works ,such as helping to old peoples, picking waste recycling, planting and saving energy, with the guidance of their counsellor teachers.Our school is located in a developing neighborhood. Economical statues of student families are lower than city’s average. Rate of child in divorced family is %8.3. All these problems make difficult to provide all students attendance to the activities that need family support.Although our school has achieved academic success in many course fields, teaching second language is not in desired level of success in terms of sociocultural. There are some reasons of this. That is;-Even it is located in Eskişehir which is a developed city by its social, economic and cultural aspects, the area is not suitable for the usage of second language and due to the lackness of potentialities in school environment , our school can not be successful enough in teaching second language as many public schools.
-The vast majority of students who attend our school haven’t families with enough economical power. This insufficiency hindered sociocultural development and it still going on becoming a handicap in front of the development
We took place a lot of social projects to eliminate the disadvantages explained above, and our attempts over the subject are going on.
Our school is project coordinator. Our responsibilities will include;
- leading the project partners and coordinating the project
- implementing the agreed project work program which have agreed activities and deadlines
- managing website and ongoing evaluation of project activity and reporting on project progress and final results.
